Ophthalmology

Dr. Jayanto Shekhar Guha did his M.S. in Ophthalmology from Institute of Ophthalmology, Aligarh Muslim University. Then he became a lecturer at the Wardha Medical College (MGIMS, Sewagram). In 1995 he did his Fellowship in Retina from Retina Foundation, Ahmedabad (Prof. P. N. Nagpal). Underwent training with Prof. Madam Mireille Bonnet at Lyon, France; with Prof. Claus Eckardt, at Frankfurt, Germany, with Prof. Eugene De Juan, at Doheny Eye Institute, Los Angeles, USA; with Prof. Carl Claes, at Middleheim Hospital, Antwerp, Belgium; with Dr. Steve Charles at Memphis, USA, with Prof. Bartz-Schmidt at Tubingen, Germany He delivers Lectures, presents Papers and Videos regularly at National and International level Conferences.

 

In 1999 he started the pioneering work of visiting prominent eye centres all over Delhi and even to places like Gurgaon, Faridabad, Ghaziabad, Gorakhpur, Bareilly, Ambala, Varanasi and Srinagar where the treatment of retinawas a far flung idea and patients had to travel long distances to get treated and that too at a very high cost. He is credited with starting and setting up Vitreoretinal Surgery Centres in collaboration with anterior segment colleagues in the places mentioned below:

SPECIAL CONTRIBUTIONS IN THE FIELD OF RETINA

Is credited with starting pioneering work in ADVANCED VITREORETINAL CARE in Faridabad, Gurgaon, Ghaziabad, Ambala, Varanasi, Bareilly & Gorakhpur besides the current areas of work.
One of the first VR surgeons in Delhi to start 23G MIVS (MICRO INCISION VITRECTOMY SURGERY)
First VR surgeon in Delhi to start vitreo retinal surgeries using BIOM III (WIDE ANGLE VISUALISATION SYSTEM) and RESIGHT.

 

Currently he is Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Sai Retina Foundation in F-5, Dilshad Colony Main Road, Delhi – 110095 and is attached to Navjyoti Eye Centre (Daryaganj) and Karuna Sindhu Hospitals, New Delhi. He is the Retina-in Charge at Fazili Eye Centre in Srinagar. His main and only area of interest is Vitreoretinal Surgeries with special emphasis on tackling complicated situations and macular surgeries. Over the past 18 years he has gathered rich and extensive experience in the field of VR surgery.

Dr. Guha organizes Free Retina Camps on a regular basis in his Centre, Sai Retina Foundation, which is a centre of excellence in complete eye care. Under Dr. Guha’s guidance, Sai Retina Foundation, has also commissioned a community based eye care project in collaboration with several NGO’s whereby a Mobile Retina Van in sent that screens around 350-400 people in each camp for diabetes and other eye related problems with the aim to create awareness in the community about Diabetes and its related co-morbidities and follow-up treatment to those affected with Diabetic Retinopathy and other eye related problems at the base Centre with the help of another transportation vehicle.
